Heavy Downpour in Chandrapur -Nagpur Region of Vidharbha on Friday

Torrential Rains Lash Chandrapur-Brahmapuri-Nagpur belt: Heavy rains lashed this 150 kms area region on Friday. During the day (Friday), the main City Nagpur saw 128 mms in 12 hrs from 8.30 am-8.30 pm IST. Many regions and parts of the city are seeing flooding and overflowing waters.
Chandrapur received a massive 280 mms in 9 hrs till 5.30 pm IST, mostly from 2- 5.30 pm. Brahmapuri measured 42 mms.
More flood reports will pour in, as the rural areas have got massive rains in the region (will try to put up figures tomorrow).

However, on some preliminary study , it was seen that the heavy rain was a result of a localised towering Cb cloud. Due to a deep trough and UAC in the Bay, with Southern Quadrant pushing moisture inland, the Cb cloud developed after 2.30 pm, and due to supportive convection, favourable Lifted Index and favouring humidity, formed into a massive cloud with >40 reflectivity..

The region had good sunshine till 2-2.30 pm, and allowed the day's maximum to rise to 31c in the mentioned cities. Later, a sudden up lifting due to rising thermals encouraged the formation of a Cb cloud to 14 kms height.
It was reported, that the intensity at Chandrapur was extreme, as almost 240 mms fell in 3 hrs from 2.30 pm IST Friday.

The CB cloud has moved NW, and is seen dissipating as on 11.30 pm IST over Southern MP.

But the conditions will favour in the Western MP region on Saturday, and as forecasted, will bring heavy rains there .

Navi Mumbai non stop torrential (cyclonic like) rains since yesterday evening. Should have exceeded 150mm - typical july rains. Forcast was bit deviated?

Vidarbha many places exceeded 1000mm since june, Marathwada outstanding rains, Konkan/madya Maharashtra usual 24*7 waterfalls. Entire Maha must have broken all records!! Trough is proving to be very vigorous..

Only interior south is facing usual drought...our tree plantations in BANG have started drying (like last 2 years)... wish water from NAVI MUMBAI reaches there!!

Next week is the one with 4 metre hightides for Mumbai - has survived all the high tides this eventful monsoon !! Even today things subsided before the tide set in around 10 AM.

Abhijit: Yes, good compiling..most rains seen from Vid are in Chandrapur and Nagpur regions.

SSET: Navi Mumbai got 102 mms till Sat Morning. Total from 1st June 1943 mms.

Nilesh: I will try and get Sambalpur figs from IMD

sset said...

Thank Rajesh Sir, that is great news so Navi Mumbai rain exceeds erstwhile heavyweight - Mangalore/udipi/... and also this exceeds Mumbai rain

Dattaraj said...

As indicated by Rajesg Sir yesterday, no rains in Hyderabad today.

Telangana region witnessed very heavy rains on Thursday. As per IMD's record, Perur recorded 58cms, Luxipet 29cms, Ramagundam26cms etc.

Thanks Pradeep sir. But I have a feeling this year 2013 Maharashtra will be the topper.

Tamini is very close to talacauvery/augumbe. Difference is mere 100mm, as trough over MAHA stands vigorous Tamini/other MAHA places may over take Talacauvery. It should be also noted that monsoon arrives few days early in KAR. It may be 2010-2011 pattern when MAHA was SWM topper.

As you have mentioned cauvery is lifeline for us south Indians - 4 state depend on single source, for water starved TN - cauvery is Gods blessing.

sset said...

As Mumbai/MAHA is waiting to see SUN rays/light, total cutoff for last 2 months, Europe seems to be in heatwave!! (for UK 35-36 deg is measured as heatwave)

sset said...

Intense heavy rains in Belapur... no respite since yesterday...Guess since Navi Mumbai is surrounded by dense western ghat, hills trap the clouds causing extreme downpours..

sset said...

Rajesh sir, just took these numbers from your 2012 blog

Mumbai Region Rainfall till End September and from 1st October to 11th October (all in mms) for MAHA

Scruz: 1867 and 168 /
Colaba:1434 and 124 /
Thane: 2337 and 122 /
Panvel:2196 and 178 /
Vasai: 1553 and 23 /
Matheran: 3379 and 168 /
Pune: 377 and 119 /

This is amazing in 2012 quantum rain achieved till end of October is equal to 2013 quantum of rain achieved till mid july!!!

After Tulshi(Mumbai), Karjat, Barvi(Badlapur), today Ulhasnagar crossed 200cm mark with 200.4cm rain till today for current SWM season in Mumbai region.

Nilesh Ladhad said...

thanks sir, i am also using imd site. I want to know about good and reliable site. today no rain till now. worst monsoon, infact for sambalpur.

sset said...

Till now we have not encountered "break monsoon phase" -MAHA badly needs.. rain can shift to other required places..

emkay said...

More dam on verge of overflowing as per NMMC. It has sunk to lowest levels this summer and supplies navimumbai

Unknown said...

Even Remaining month of July might go wet for Mumbai, no "BREAK MONSOON PHASE" at least in July.Infact next Week might turnout to be even more wetter for entire Maharashtra including Mumbai.

Vinod Desai said...

Hi sam,
what would you sight as a reason for mumbai getting more rains next week.

sset said...

correct Samji, IMD also has put alert on MAHA, another BB(n) in pipeline implies another assured dump of 500mm for MAHA...probably GUJ also...
NAVI MUMBAI having non-stop torrents- as if it has never rained before-nights are unbearable to sleep as pounding waterfalls like noise comes...

Unknown said...

Point to be noted the next "BB" inline is the very reason behind a wet phase and also there might be a chance of a vortex forming near konkan, along with strengthening of west coast trough.all these conditions coming together "might" cause wet weather in Mumbai, entire konkan, vidarbh, north Maharashtra. south Gujrat coast.things will get more clearer by tuesday.

Tulshi(Mumbai) recorded 182mm rain ending 8.30am today & crosses 300cm mark for current SWM season with 302.3 cms rain till today.

As per Abhijitjis figures Mumbai-Tulsi lake overtakes heavy weights like Mahabaleshwar,Ratnagiri,Goa,Mangalore,Udipi... that is great/ With another low in pipeline, Tulsi may move to higher position in Pradeepjis list.
