 14th November:

NEM consistency as of now...and overall conditions..

Analysis from Vagarian Gokul

Daily values of Nino 3.4 index have been exhibiting an overall increasing trend since the beginning of November with high frequency sub-weekly fluctuations. Current value is close to -0.5 .

The observed trend may be partially related to the MJO activity over the western hemisphere during the same time period.

Extended range forecasts of MJO from various global models indicate an eastward propagating signal of the large scale tropical wave with large uncertainty in the intensity estimates though.

The north east monsoon rains of south east India remained subdued during the past 2 weeks with negative rainfall anomalies growing across the region. Forecasts for the immediate week to come do not indicate any large scale rainfall that could compensate for these negative anomalies.

On monthly timescales, a large region of intense suppressed convective anomalies have been observed over the equatorial Indian Ocean.

3rd November

Mumbai hottest in Maharashtra on 2nd & 3rd November

Mumbai Santacruz was the hottest place in Maharashtra on 2nd.& 3rd at 36.5°c.( 2° above normal)

This was followed by Akola and Jalgaon,  the normally hottest spots,  at 35.9°c.( on 2nd).

The last 10 years chart shows that this temperature is not unusual or new to Mumbai in early November.

City had recorded 37.6°c in 2018 on 4th November.

This high temperature occurrences happen after the monsoon withdrawal.

The winds reverse from Westerly to Easterly. East inland winds into Mumbai are hot and dry. Thus city gets hot, but humidity is much less. So real feel temperature stars to 39 °c.

Mumbai may expect temperatures around 34/35°c till 8th/9th of this month.

But cloudless skies will bring some relief at night as we can feel the minimum dropping to 21°. City will have a day-night range of about 14°.

This diurnal difference may effect health of vulnerable persons.
