Weekend Outlook:

The low in the Bay, 99B, lies at 9.4N and 89.3E..at 1004 mb. We have not yet numbered it. All models forecast a Westerly track. I see a westerly track of this low, and strengthening to a WML to 1000 mb by Sunday/Monday. It will approach the North TN and South AP coast by Monday.
Chennai could see some precipitation on Monday, maybe by evening.

Cold wave is moving in in the rear of N-3.
In Pakistan, Islamabad was 4c on Friday morning, Hyderabad saw 12c and Karachi 14c. Coldest in the plains were Nawabshah and Sibbi at 1c.
Karachi could fall to 12c and Hyderabad to 10c this weekend. Lowest  may touch  0c  in the plains of Balochistan/Sindh.

Expecting the cold to move into India from Friday night. Next 2 nights (from Friday) we could see lows of around 8c in New Delhi and 7c in NCR. Amritsar could drop to 4/5c and Chandigarh 8c.
Many places in Punjab and Rajasthan will be around 6/8c. However the coolest places in Punjab (Adampur) or Rajasthan could touch 3/4c by Sunday night (Monday morning).

Maharashtra and finally Gujarat will see a drop in night temperatures from Saturday morning temperatures. Gujarat nights will drop by 2/3c from current levels.Surat will finally drop to below 15c this weekend.
Next 2 nights, expecting Vidharbha towns to be around 11c, including Nagpur.

Mumbai will be at 20c (Colaba) and 16c (Scruz) on Saturday morning. Sunday morning will be 1c lower.
Pune and Nasik may touch 7/8c next 2 nights. Aurangabad will slide to 11c..

Moving East, cold could take Kolkata by Sunday morning, with the expected night temperature on Sunday could be 12c. On Friday morning, it was already 3c below normal at 14c in Kolkata. Days would be around 26c with North winds.

Kathmandu can see the minimum going down to below 3c, around 2/3c from Sunday night.

@ Rajesh Sir. Almost Whole India experienced cold wave as in South India also many places touched to 10-12 C temp mark.. But why Gujarat left out of cold wave then ? As we can see Rajkot lowest just 15.2 C & Surat too 16.2 C for Nov. Even Mumbai was cooler at 14.6 C in Nov. So why only Gujarat misses out cold wave of Novemeber then ? Anways Rajesh Sir Gujarat have helped you to gain 4points in the contest.

Can nebuddy please check for srinagar lowest temp ,as per what i remember ; the lowest temp observed by me on imd home page was -1.7 c ( i dont remember the exact date, but after 20th november 2012) ..

rohit: Srinagar was minus on 2 days after 20th, 25th (lowest -1.4c) and 27th. Rest days it was above zero due to cloudy conditions.

Cauvery Water talks between TN and KAR failed. Chronic drought. Myself still maintain - possible gradual desertification/dryness over South East India. NE monsoon currents may weaken and not reach south India in future. Intersection region of AP,KAR,TN may be the hot spot.

So as finally word used for Gujarat ! So that shows in November Rest of India was cooling than normal but only Gujarat was spared !(except Ahmedabad & some N.Gujarat region).@ Rajesh Sir. So what conditions restricted Gujarat from cooling !

Why Arabian sea do not produce
as much clouds as Bay of
Bengal???

Arpit Sharma said...

Rajesh Kapadia
bay gets its pulses from the far
east..with easterly
waves...arabian sea is a high
pressure region, normally at this
time..

Abhijit Modak said...

@ Arpit. Already discuss above that
easterlies from far South China sea & Java sea send pulses in Bay.. but Arabian west part consist mostly desert area of Arab & Africa !

Delhi Sjung has 39 rainy days annually.
Mumbai Scruz has 81 and Clb 79 days.

@ Rajesh Sir. Today Badlapur max temp was 30 C bit reduced from yesterday's max. So what is todays max temp of Santacruz ? It may also have reduced than yesterday.. And also Colaba, Dahanu & Vagaries max temp please.

@rajesh, next week's forecast for upper level winds (500/300hpa/jet streams) showing south-southwest direction for northwest and west india. Does it have any effect on the weather conditions in terms of temperature or precipitation?

Rajesh said...

RKC: These upper winds at 300 hp have no effect on temp..but 500 mb winds do effect moisture...upper winds currently show a SW trend. But no immiediete effect as ground winds are NW...

Right on the money as far as the temp forecast goes. Your vast experience counts.

Rajesh said...

Neeraj: Thanks. I see the kathmandu temps also dropping, was 3.5c last night..nothing meaningfull coming your way this week...

Abhijit Modak said...

@ Rajesh Sir. We were expecting drop in min temp for Sunday morning here in Mumbai, Pune ,Nashik & Surat belt. But instead min temp raised today at above cities mentioned. Only Mumbai min temp is constant that is same as yesterday. So why min temp not drop here instead of being clear skies and also yesterday max temp was reduced too. Last night at 11.30pm Badlapur was having 19.5 C so was expecting 14 C but in late night or early not dropped instead stable temp of 15.9 C from 5am to 7am.
