When does the West coast monsoon (Konkan -Goa) strengthens -

Features which can be formed locally-

1) A surface /lower level trough (formed locally) off the west coast.
2) Cyclonic shear(formed locally over a limited area for a day or two) in low level westerlies.
3) Strengthening of the middle level cyclonic circulation(extending to lower levels) off the coast. (feeble middle level circulation is a normal synoptic feature which exists over the Konkan coast and neighbourhood during monsoons).
4) Significant negative pressure departures in absence of a surface low.

Features associated with low/depressions over the Bay-

5) A surface /lower level trough (under influence of the low) off the west coast.
6) Low or depression over north Bay and its W/NW movement(till West MP).
7) Strengthening of the middle level cyclonic circulation under influence of Bay low.
8) Extensive UAC associated with a low/depression over north Bay.
9) West moving UAC associated with a weakening low /depression over East MP.
10) Strong pressure gradient along the coast (rainfall in the ghat section increases considerably).
11) Sympathy low formation in the Arabian sea.

*Features can get intermingled.

When does the West coast monsoon (Konkan -Goa) weakens -

1) When the western end of the monsoon axis is towards the foothill of Himalayas.
2) Depressions/Lows formed in the Bay take a more Northerly path (rather than W/NW path).
3) Ridge formation from Konkan /coastal Karnataka to East Rajasthan.

Forecasted East rough  Let's look into the 3rd week of March ( 17th - 21st). Mumbai : Hot weather likely for Mumbai region this week, ty...
