Saturday, 2nd March Temperatures:

Mukdahan, Thailand was the hottest in Asia today, just short of 40c  at  39.7c, and several station in Thailand crossed 39c today, Saturday.

But, Konkan Coastline, Western India, was also amongst the hottest spots in India.

Highest was Ratnagiri, Maharastra Coast recording a close 39.2c (7.5c above normal), and Mumbai Scruz AP 38.0c,and Goa 37.7c.
Downtown Mumbai (Colaba) saw a high of 35.5c, while here Vagaries recorded 35.7c.

Surely, vagaries had anticipated 37/38c by Sunday, but its gone a day ahead to cross 39c. (should have made the strip along the Konkan a darker shade in the map put up on Thursday :-)).

Kolkata was a comfortable 30.9c and New Delhi Sjung 26.8c.

In neighbouring Pakistan, Chorre in Sindh was the hottest at 33.5c, while in Nepal it was Biratnagar at 31.3c. Kathmandu saw a high of 27.2c and a low of 9.5c.
Rangamati and Sylhet were the hottest in Bangladesh at 33.5c.

abhijit ji, this is nothing unusual for Mumbai. Reason being March is hottest season in Mumbai (only for few days) and during peak summer (april/may/june) temperature comes back to 30s (30-33 degrees). Infact Mumbai during these days(april, may, june) is much better - wherein places outside Maharashtra - like TN,AP,interior KAR - temperatures sizzle between 45deg - 50deg.

Below are some stats for March highs (as per todays times of India). Probably Rajesh sir can explain why is March hottest season for Mumbai??????

2012 39.5,
2011 41.3,
2010 38,
2009 37.8,
2008 35.7,
2007 40,
2006 38,
2005 36.2,
2004 39.3,
2003 37.4

We doubt to place RAJ/GUJ as they are turing out to be much cooler (as past 3 years summer!!!)

Thanks

Every year its same story there is nothing unusual, along the western coast including Mumbai are Summer Starters , but later on during peak summer this heat is driven towards north and south part of india.

SSET- there is nothing as u say cooler climate in gaj and Guj, infact these places sizzle during summer in april , may and june between 45-50 degrees, including delhi. SO MUMBAI IS MUCH BETTER COMPARED TO THESE PLACES.

RAJESH SIR
VARIOUS FACTORS WHICH I BELIEVE = LOW HUMIDITY ,DRY WINDS COMING FROM EAST AND ABSENCE OF SEA BREEZE , COULD BE BE THE REASON BEHING THE SOARING TEMPERATURES IN MUMBAI.IS IT SO.

With the SCruz reading touching 39.1c today, and the low at 16.2c in the morning, we see a record variation for the station of 22.9c..see Vagaries extreme blog also..

Sam: I have put up a note on Mumbai Page with my explanation and views.
sset: Gujarat may not have had a heat wave , but it certainly gets very hot, specially the Kutch regions, and 45/46 can be the norms there in summer..
