Severe Cat. 5 Cyclone Yasi has hit land about 2 hrs ago near Mission Beach, Queensland.
On striking the coast, winds with gusts up to 290 km/h between Cairns and Ingham andthe adjacent ranges will extend inlandand gradually weaken.
The core. with a pressure of 930 hpa and winds at 205 kmph and in gusts of 285 kmph will pass the coast in the next 2/3 hours, and will be very destructive and violent.
Movement will be at 23 kmph in a W-SW direction now.
