Mumbai S'Cruz Low on Thursday Morning Bottoms to 8.8c !! 8c Below Normal for this time of the Month !

Ganesh inquires whether now this station can beat its all time low of 7.4c ?
Personally, I do not think it possible this season. According to my estimate the temps can show a  rise very soon, maybe from tonite itself, and yo-yo throughout this week.
But, this 8.8 itself is very confusing and surprising ! At 5.30 am, S'Cruz showed 12.4c, at 6.30 pm it was 11.4c. At 7.30 am it showed 10.8c. Now, the minimum is usually around 6.45-7.00 am. So, accordingly, between 6.30 and 7.30 am, it dropped to 8.8c !

Nasik confirms to be at 2.7c, and Pune recorded 4.6c Thursday Morning. Nasik AWS shows a low of 1.8c today !
In Gujarat, Nalliya was lowest at 2.0c, while Deesa recorded 4.4c. Surat was 9.3c.

Thanks Rajesh for the reply. I too was surprised to see 3.6 C dip from the 5.30 am time , unlike 29th Jan when there was only 1.4C dip when SCZ dropped from 11.4C at 5.30 AM to 10 C

The current cold spell is widespread. By the time this cold spell is over many places will see minimum temperatures getting close to all time February lows. For any place to record its all time low in February would be very strange and rare indeed. Lets see what happens.

IMD probably recalculates the temperature adjusting for the wind chill effect and thus the low temperature of 8.8 C for Mumbai.

I agree with Ahsokbhai's comment. One thing that I noticed today early morning as I was dropping my son to his school was the wind-chill, was a bit unusual for Mumbai and the coldest that I have felt this season. I think 8.4 degrees would be after adjusting for the windchill.

The temperatures reported by IMD are all actual temperatures.
By the way IMD does not even know how to measure wind chill :) .

Firstly..please refer to vagaries'blog post on Mumbai's 8.8c..as Akshay says, wunderground reports 12c in its list, but thats ok, as it is in intervals, and could have missed the lowest. But, my xperance (inxcess of 40 yrs) shows an avg drop of 2c from the 5.30 am reading. Max could be 3c, on conditions of NO breeze,& clear sky. There was a breeze of 7/10 kmph between 5.30-7.30 am. And 5.30 am was at 12.4c, I would have accepted 10.4c. I feel, Very debatable reading indeed this 8.8c !!

Rajesh, Here are the Santacruz AWS station temperatures.
2:30 AM 13.9
3:30 AM 12.6
4:30 AM 13.5
5:30 AM 14.5
6:30 AM 11.4
7:30 AM 10.8

It ended up recording a low of 10.6 which was higher than main weather station in Santacruz.

The temperature recorded at Santacruz weather station was
2:30 AM 12.6
5:30 AM 12.4

The trends reported by both the stations is similar so it is very likely that the results are accurate.
