Sir can u predict when the daytime heat in Mumbai will decrease?

We require at-least 3-4 spells of 3 digit widespread extreme rains over SAP and TN to tide away drought. Any update on Bay systems (many models are suggesting towards some rains for north TN - which is good)?
Seems cyclones over AS are increasing - is it due to warming of waters over AS? 4th cyclone in 2018 - all towards Saudi.

Sir can u pls explain the exact meaning of shear and ridge which prevent systems from moving in that direction and intensifying?

Rajesh sir,is rain likely in Nagothane due to the effect of DD over Arabian sea during these days?

Abizer kachwala said...

Yes.I too want indepth knowledge about key drivers and barriers to the system..i.e.wind shear and ridge

Abizer: Good chances till Roha of rains....next 2 days..

Will reply to other queries at night...

Wind shear, is a difference in wind speed and/or direction over a relatively short distance in the atmosphere. Atmospheric wind shear can be either vertical or horizontal wind shear. Vertical wind shear is a change in wind speed or direction with change in altitude. Horizontal wind shear is a change in wind speed with change in lateral position for a given altitude.[
Strong wind shear in the high troposphere forms the anvil-shaped top of this mature cumulonimbus cloud, or thunderstorm.

Tropical cyclones are, heat engines that are fueled by the temperature gradient between the warm tropical ocean surface and the colder upper atmosphere. Tropical cyclone development requires relatively low values of vertical wind shear so that their warm core can remain above their surface circulation center, thereby promoting intensification.

Vertical wind shear tears up the "machinery" of the heat engine causing it to break down. Strongly sheared tropical cyclones weaken as the upper circulation is blown away from the low level center.

The vertical wind shear in a tropical cyclone's environment is very important. When the wind shear is weak, the storms that are part of the cyclone grow vertically, and the latent heat from condensation is released into the air directly above the storm, aiding in development. When there is stronger wind shear, this means that the storms become more slanted and the latent heat release is dispersed over a much larger area.

The subtropical ridge, also known as the subtropical high or horse latitudes, is a significant belt of atmospheric high pressure situated around the latitudes of 30°N in the Northern Hemisphere.
It can enhance or depress monsoon regimes around their low-latitude periphery.
