Significant below normal cyclone activity on north indian Ocean for two consecutive years

 For the first time in the satellite era, for two consecutive years, the yearly accumulated cyclone energy (ACE) in the North Indian Ocean (NIO) has not crossed 10 units, indicating weak cyclones for 2 years in a row. See attached timeseries of ACE from 1982-2025. Data: Jtwc

For the first time after 2011-2012, two consecutive years (2024-2025) have not seen a major cyclone (winds >100 knots) in the north Indian Ocean. Data: JTWC
