 The Northeast Monsoon officially ended  on December 31, 2025. So, an unseasonal weather system is set to bring fresh rainfall to the extreme south Peninsula.

A depression has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial region under a cyclonic circulation.

Tracking west-northwest, the system will approach Sri Lanka and the South Tamil Nadu coast.

Further intensification is unlikely.
