After weeks of stable, unseasonably warm spring-like weather in many parts of Europe, Mother Nature is preparing to deliver a sharp reminder that winter isn’t over yet. A significant shift in the hemispheric pattern is underway, bringing a winter storm with cold, snow, and potentially damaging freezes to many parts of the European continent.

After the final collapse of the Polar Vortex, a massive jet-stream disruption blocks the Atlantic, sending a deep Arctic upper-level trough towards Europe. It will bring much colder temperatures across the heart of Europe.h March 2026:

After a respite,  Mumbai is in for a 2 day hot spell expected on 23rd /24th March. Day will suddenly rise to 38°c. 🥵 

With delayed cooler Sea breeze after 4 pm.

Cold wave deepens in Kashmir valley amid snowfall, rain; weather to ease by weekend

Winter has made a brief comeback in the Kashmir Valley, with fresh snowfall reported across higher reaches and popular tourist destinations like Sonamarg and Gulmarg. Meanwhile, the plains have been lashed by rain.

In higher reaches       snowfall activity has intensified. Popular tourist destination Gulmarg recorded past 24 hours, several areas reported notable precipitation, including Baramulla (29.5 mm), Poonch (29 mm), Batote (25.5 mm), and Pahalgam (20.6 mm),ded 5–6 inches of fresh snowfall with accumulation continuing. Over the while Gulmarg received around 23 cm of snow.

Same urban setup... same concrete...yet temperatures today are normal to slightly below of climatologica averages!

But such days rarely make headlines.

Just last week. when Mumbai touched 40°C it was widely linked to global warming or concretization.

Shows how short-term spikes vs normal variability are often selectively highlighted.

Maharashtra: Rain/thunderstorms possible for Madhya Maharashtra (Pune to Kolhapur), Marathwada and Vidarbha regions next 2 days.

Karnatak: Thunderstorms expected across interior Karnataka next 2-3 days

Gujarat:19th/20th: Saurashtra and South Gujarat ( Surat to Bharuch and Vadodra) to get thunderstorms.

With 36.47°C average maximum temperature, the first half of March 2026 in Pune Shivajinagar is the 2nd hottest since 2014. Data: IMD

The recent March heat over Interior Maharashtra and Konkan is now gradually becoming less. Peak Temperatures in the State are now declining from 42°c to today's 40°c...gradual.

The Anticyclone, or High Pressure over Gujarat has now fizzled out. A Line of Wind Discontinuity (LWD) starts forming in the Central South Peninsula areas. LWD means where the winds from the West will meet the winds from the East over Central Peninsula, bringing thundershowers. 

This is basically due to excess heat in the region. Thundershowers will cool down the days, and reasonably " Normal Temperatures " will prevail till March end.

The coming week will be less hot and some thundershowers expected in Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada abd and parts of South Konkan on 18th/19th/20th March ( Wed/Thu/Fri).

Mumbai: with today's 32°c, we see the day's getting to normal range soon.

Next week, 16th-17th will be around 33°c and 18th-20th cloudy with light rains in Northern Outer townships (Palghar,Virar). Days at 33/34°c. But humidity may increase the discomfort levels.

Pune: Cloudy and light rains on 19th/20th. Days around 36°c, but nights warming up to 20°c. May damage the Mango Flowers incase of moderate rain .

Sambhajinagar: Be aware for some thundershowers on 19th. At this stage may be bad for the Mango Flowers.

Mahabaleshwar: Warm days leading to thunder showers on 19th/20th...nights cooling down to 17°c.

Speculation is being heard recently about an "El Niño" development during Monsoon, which could lead to a deficit SWM.

Mumbai Santacruz touches 40.0°c (+7.6°) today ! But 19th Hottest in India. 

No panic situation....not unusual...reason 👇

1. As Mumbai saw a Low of 21.6°c, making aMax/Min range of 18.4°c...and getting the day's average feel temperature of 30.3°c.

2. There have been several previous March touching 40°...The earliest 40°was on 3rd March 1981, then on 16th in 2007, on the 7th in 2013,  26th in 2015, 26th in 2018, 2019 and 28th in 2021. 

The reason for this year's 8 day hot spell is the "Anti Cyclone" or High Pressure over North Gujarat. This system delayed the onset of the sea breeze over Mumbai. 

We see a Trough in Central India off setting the High Pressure and advancing NW winds over Mumbai by Friday 13th March. Days will stabilise in Mumbai to around 35°c from the 13th March.

DELHI NCR Feels unusual early March Heat.

Delhi/NCR is witnessing an unusual surge in day temperatures, with the mercury crossing 35°C for three consecutive days.

Safdarjung  recorded 35.7°C on March 7, about 7°C above normal, (marking the first time in 15 years that Delhi crossed 35°C in the first week of March).

On March 8, the temperature again touched 35.6°C. Lodi Road station reported 35.8°C, while the Ridge observatory peaked at a scorching 38.9°C, nearly 9°C above average.

March 9th recorded 35.3 °C.

Temperatures may remain well above normal for the next four days.
