 25th February

Mentioned today in ToI by IMD...HeatWave which is seen since 22nd...and appropriately Mentioned on 22nd in Vagaries as " unseasonal heat wave ".

Sunday, February 23, 2025

 Mumbai:

The current unseasonal "heat Wave" Temperatures persisted on 23rd..with Santacruz recording 37.2c...5c above normal. Mumbai was the 4th hottest in India as shown below

We can expect this till 26th as mentioned.

However, the "Real Feel " temperature is much less...around 35c, as the humidity in the afternno is only 26%, very much less for a coastal city.

We feel hot and humid in April/may in Mumbai as the temperature may be around 33/34c, but humidity is at 85% in May. So "Real feel " Temperatures could be as high as 38/39c in April/May.

Pune : 35.6°c

Aurangabad: 35.7°c

Mahabaleshwar: 30.7°c

Warm, dry winds from the North East are the cause and reason. They have overpowered the weakening W.D. North winds.

Similar temperatures,36-38°,can continue till 26th ..Maha Shivratri.

But, point to note. This change and difference in Wind Patterns is not absolutely "out of normal".

Vagaries records show it has happened before, 3/4 times in last 12 years ( in late February or early March).

16th Post (Evening):

Mumbai:

The effect of a "Anticyclone" over the Arabian Sea since the last 5 days, and absence of any western disturbances" in the Northern Regions, has kept the day temperatures over Mumbai in the Higher range..i.e 35/36c. (+5c)

from Ogimet

But, similar high temperatures of over 4c above normal in the day are not seen at night...which are around normal at 18c.

The day/night difference was on 14th February at 16c.

This diurnal range of almost 18-20c is more frequent and akin to March.

What happens next week ?

19th Overall Picture

The anti Cyclone will persist in the sea till 19th February, when, finally, a western disturbance in the north will appear and fizzle it out.

Mumbai: Days warmer than normal till 19th, around 35c..with Nights at 20c. Lowering and easing of day temperatures after 19th to 32c.

Pune : Seeing high temperatures in the day, and very low temperatures at night...the reason due to the lack of proper North winds in the day...

from IMD

Next week, Days will get better by dropping 3/4c in Pune after 19th.

(The largest diurnal range was in Ahmednagar on 15th..24.5°c....Max today 35°c, Min 10.5°c. !)
